We recently found out that we are expecting our second baby. I knew that I would eventually have to move rooms around for us to have space for it and to give our little girl we already have some more space to play. Her room was tiny, not much larger than a full size bed. We had another large bedroom on the upper level and were using it as both an office and a sewing room. As luck would have it, in Idaho not a lot of home have a built in air conditioner because it’s really not that warm for much of the year and not a necessity like it always was for me growing up in Missouri. With all of our electronics in the warmest room of the house, it was getting to be a little too warm for comfort. My hubby decided to move it all into the basement which left me with a large room for my sewing–every girl’s dream, right? I couldn’t bring myself to use a large room knowing that my little girl was confined to such a small room. Solution? Switch rooms.
The room is easily large enough for both my toddler and a new baby–with room to spare. Since we are currently renting this house I was looking for ways to personalize and decorate the new room to surprise Talia and help make the transition even easier. We co-slept until she was 15 1/2 months old (until we moved into this home) and it was hard enough making the switch to her sleeping in her own room. Not to mention that after moving her toddler bed would not go back together and our solution for now has been a full size mattress on the floor.
One day my hubby took her on a little daddy-daughter date to Jamba Juice and the park for a few hours. During that time I hauled her extremely heavy and wobbly mattress into her new room along with her other things and all my sewing gear into her old one. I then spent a couple hours using my new Forest Friends Wall Sticker Kit from My wonderful Walls. The sticker kit is pretty handy because as I mentioned, we’re renting and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of painting, although the stickers would look better if I had done some basic landscape painting. They’re fabric decals that can be removed without damaging the paint on the wall or if you need to re-position.
When my little girl got home I was super excited to show her the new big girl room I had put together for her. She immediately was drawn to the new stickers and it was so adorable to see her point to each one and wait to her me tell her what they all were. Excuse the messy pig tails, or what began as pig tails, haha.
Her favorite part of the new decor was definitely the frog and turtle stickers. As you can see in the first photo, they are just along the side of her bed and she recognized the frog saying over and over again, “ribbit, ribbit”.
I was hoping that because I had put them all up while she was gone that she wouldn’t figure out that they were stickers that could come off. Less than a week later after she had been put to bed for the night (or I thought she was sleeping anyway) I went to check on her only to find the toadstools crumpled up in the hallway. It made me pretty sad that I had spent so much time working on putting these up and she had so easily taken them off. Since then, she’s managed to get off the fox, part of a tree and some blossoms from the tree. She did get into trouble and hasn’t touched them since, but I think I’ll be redoing it to better suit a curious toddler.
So, what do you think of my kids wall mural? My toddler loves it, and I love how easy it was to accomplish! If you don’t think wall decals are quite up your alley, they also offer full-room nursery mural stencil kits to paint your own wall murals, canvas art and even the paints you need.
If you still aren’t sure if you’re up for using these products, take a look at this video that shows just how easy they are to use. You don’t need ANY skills, I promise!! =)
