I’m combining my post tonight because I need to catch up on yesterday’s and it’s already getting a bit late for writing tonight’s. Something I’m very thankful for are my old friends as much as my new ones.
It seems like my entire childhood I was “the new kid”. We moved around quite a bit and it was really hard for me to make friends, let alone keep them. I always remembered certain people from each place I had lived even if I had become nothing more than a blip in their lives. Lately I had begun to think that even people I had associated with during high school couldn’t actually be referred to as friends, let alone people I had know from grade school. Then something amazing happened.
Facebook is sometimes a really great thing (when it’s actually working and being cooperative) and can work in mysterious ways. A girl I had been really close friends with in middle school posted a stunning photo of herself and after liking it, I for some reason hovered to see who else had like it. I saw a name that stood out to me..Zach Alley. Curious, I clicked on his profile and after wading through 5 or so profile photos of his dog I found one with his face. A 17 year blast from the past yet I could still see the same little boy in the face of the grown up young man I was now looking at. It took a few messages to get him to recognize me (the name change from getting married had completed thrown him for a loop) but as soon as it clicked we were talking like we were still the same best friends we were at 5 years old. We were quickly reliving memories of being little partners in crime and how we used to scavenge for quarters to play the arcade games while our parents were bowling on their league. He even remembered helping me pull out my second tooth. In case you’re wondering how two 5 years olds decide to pull a tooth, it was a string attached to the claw machine. =)
I feel so flattered and blessed that I was able to have an impact on someone, even at such a young age. He truly was my best friend for the entire time I knew him and was around him. I’m disappointed in myself that we weren’t able to keep in touch until recently, but I don’t see myself giving that up anytime soon. Besides, I was a crazy freaking kid that was also an absolute weirdo. If someone wanted to be my friend then (and still does after having knowing me at that stage) then they’re totally worth keeping around in my book. I’m even hoping that he’ll be able to make a trip out here soon. 😉
I’m also thankful for new friends. The moving around a lot has continued into my adult life and I find myself deciding not to seek out many new friends since I’m *sure* we’ll end up moving again soon. Starting this blog this year has opened me up to an amazing group of women that I’ve met exclusively thorough the blog. Some of them I speak to every day, like Shai of The Vagabond Studio, or Savannah at Eight Days a Week. I organized a handmade event with them in September and we totally clicked. I’m able to share my everyday life with them and know that instead of poking fun at me, they’ll come right back with their own funny thing from that day.
On the note of fellow bloggers, I also met Aubrey of Kerrific Online and we had socialized from the aspect of both being bloggers in SE Idaho. It was so cool to see that someone in my blogging group was living in the same area as me. As time went on, I saw that she did Pampered Chef and decided that I wanted to host a show in my home. We haven’t even known each other that long but even tonight as we shared a ride home from a vendor fair, I found myself totally opening up to her and feeling comfortable with it. It’s not something I normally do but we seem to have a lot in common and it felt nice knowing someone in person that lives the blog lifestyle I’ve worked myself into. She’s also a mommy to four so she’s really great for parenting advice and such. Plus, I get to take a few photos of her cute little family tomorrow. 😉
In late September I decided to jump on board with an opportunity to work with an amazing wellness company. I met Natalie though a mom’s group and she introduced me to the company and started inviting me to groups that she participates in (ever played Bunco?). She’s so awesome because she is so outgoing and loves talking with people and getting to know them–something I admittedly need to work on. She’s great at what she does and is an amazing mentor for getting me going in this business. She has patience with me and for some reason, thinks I’m hilarious. Haha.
Sometimes in life you just gotta live that Girl scout song I remember singing so very long ago.. “Make new friends, but keep the old. Some are silver and the others gold.”
