The diaper shell has an outer layer of knit which I really think is my new favorite. Although I personally hate sewing knit diapers, they really have just a little more give in them to get a better fit than I feel I get with wovens–especially since I use snaps. There is a hidden layer of poly fleece which is also another up-and-coming favorite of mine since it is more breathable than pul yet still has a moisture repelling quality to it to keep diapers from leaking. Plus, you really don’t have to worry as much about periodically heat sealing your diapers like you do with hidden pul to ensure holes from sewing don’t cause leaks.
The inner layer is a super soft cotton velour. It’s still on my ‘to buy’ list for sewing our own diapers but I just really love the price point it’s at and the variety of colors that are available. I love that beautiful diapers like this can change the way I create for us at home. 😉
Favorite part?? Check out that wing crossover!! Keep in mind that my little girl is just shy of 2 and is weighing about 28 pounds. I’m shocked that she’s even still on a crossover snap but it really does get her a more snug fit that doesn’t try to adjust itself later on as she moves like I have had happen with other diapers. I have a few that don’t crossover anymore that do still provide a great fit but my little girl is a tummy sleeper so if you think about it, it’s just a little extra protection right under the belly button for naps and bedtime, which is necessary for those sleeping on their tummy.
The diaper even came to me prepped with a handwritten note explaining this and how to further care for the diaper. Does cloth diapering get any better than that? =) I know there’s been so many time that I’ve been waiting for fluff mail (cloth diapers or fabrics for them) and had to wait to actually use them because they need to be prepped. It also came with a pair of hip snap covers. There have been a few times with other diapers where we are no longer using the hip snaps and they can dig into poor baby’s skin and leave marks. The covers are made using the same cotton velour as the inner layer so they are not only cute, but soft and cuddly as well.
Natalia can even reenact how I look just waiting for a special package. Pretty cute kid, eh?
If you haven’t heard the message loud and clear by now, this Snug Bug Diaper is my current #1 favorite in our stash, topping even those made by myself!!!
