I’ve been hearing a lot of old wive’s tales and such lately for finding out the gender of your unborn baby. I decided about a week and a half ago that I’d search some out and try them to see what they said for our little bean. I had my ultrasound today so I can let you in on what was correct and what wasn’t Obviously, that doesn’t mean that you should rely on whatever is correct for me to be for you as well since there’ a good chance that most will be a coincidence. After all, if there’s a 50/50 chance of boy or girl, that is a pretty high chance of some fun test being correct.
Wedding Ring:
For this one the mother lies flat on her back. Her wedding ring is tied to sewing thread and held over her belly. If it swings in a back and forth motion it’s a boy and if it swings in a circular motion it’s a girl.
Ours went in a circle, claiming a girl.
Carry That Baby:
It is said that if a mother carries her baby high in her belly, it’s a girl. If the baby is carried low, it’s a boy. This one seems to make a lot of sense, although that doesn’t mean it’s entirely accurate.
With Natalia I did carry pretty high. This baby seems to be laying pretty low. -Boy
Chinese Gender Prediction:
This is a chart that takes into account your lunar age at the time of conception and the specific month of conception. Most of the websites for this are very easy to use. You simply input your age and month of conception and it shows you on the chart if you are to be having a girl or boy.
Because this one is a constant where you can check for past children, I did. It says Natalia was supposed to be a boy and this baby should also be a boy.
Be Still My Heart:
If you find at your appointments that the heart rate is over 140, it’s a girl. If the heart rate is under 140, it’s a boy.
My last appointment was the only one where we’ve listened to the heart beat. It was 158 bpm, so this would say girl.
Intelligender:
Mirror, Mirror On The Wall:
It is said that if you experience a high amount of acne and blemished that you are having a girl. The reasoning behind this is that the beautiful little girl is “stealing” the mother’s beauty.
I’ve had crazy breakouts during this pregnancy so that would seem to go with the claim of a girl.
Another speculation having to do with the way the mother looks has to do with your chest. If the size increases dramatically, it’s a girl. Not dramatically, it’s a boy.
Given the ridiculous change in only the first three months, we would be having a girl.
The Mayans Have It:
Other Random Old Wives Tales:
If you eat garlic and the smell seeps from your pores it’s a boy. If it doesn’t it’s a girl.
I seem to be able to smell it after eating but I don’t think it’s coming from my pores rather than being stuck on my fingers and hands for cooking. So, girl.
Some people say if you have older children that their first word can determine the sex of your next baby. If the say mama first, your next will be a girl. Dada means that your next will be a boy.
Natalia’s first word was Dadda meaning this baby should be a boy.
Fun. Chinese gender prediction worked for me both times!
Love this!! Most of the predictions were right, for me. ♥
Another one is you look at your last child hairline at the back of their neck. If it’s straight across it’s a girl, if it comes to a point, it’s a boy. This has been right for everyone so far. Mine is straight and I had a sister, my older sisters is straight, my daughters are both straight so if I have another girl than it would be right! Try it out with your daughter 🙂
This was fun to read whether the tests work or not, and congratulations!
