In case you haven’t heard, coconut oil is a versitile product that can be used in everything from cooking to homemade beauty products. It is handcrafted in the Phillipines using processes that have been passed down for generations. Get more information on exactly “What is Coconut Oil”?

There are so many uses for coconut oil and I’m betting there are some that you wouldn’t guess. I happened to get some tomatoes in my last Bountiful Basket and have been looking for a great way to use them. Tropical Traditions offers a 16 oz glass jar, 32 oz glass jar, 1 gallon pail and 5 gallon pail of their coconut oil.

After doing some searching on tropical Traditions ‘How to Use Coconut Oil’ page I found an amazing recipe for making your own ketchup..using coconut oil! I’ve also been experimenting a bit myself lately with using more coconut oil in cooking. Last night I cooked some chicken breasts in the coconut oil and seasoned with ginger. I made some egg noodles and creamy white alfredo sauce. Usually I like to mix my chicken in but decided to just slice it up and put on top of the noodles and sauce in case I didn’t get the seasoning quite right. I was actually quite impressed though. There was a faint aroma of coconut and the hint of flavor compliments the white sauce and ginger amazingly.
I happened to also have some Brussels sprouts that needed to be cooked. I roasted them in basic seasonings (salt, pepper) and tossed them in the coconut oil before roasting. I remember as a kid not really liking Brussels sprouts but WOW were these delicious. =)

Some of the many ways I can implement coconut oil into my own home:
–Use for razor burn after shaving.
–Mix with sugar for a great body scrub.
–Use as a cloth diaper safe rash cream.
–Use a teaspoon and work through hair for a great conditioning.
–Use in cooking. Can substitute for butter as a solid or as various liquid oils.
–Use in making soap.
